If you're starting from Brussels, it will take you 2 1/2 hours one way to get to Amsterdam by high-speed train (called the Thalys). Therefore you'll be spending 5 hours total for the round-trip journey, not giving you nearly enough time to see much of anything in Amsterdam. Recommend you either spend the day visiting Brussels or spend at a minimum an extra day in Amsterdam.

Yes, there is. From Brussels it is about 3 hours via train to Amsterdam. If you leave early enough, you can have a full day there. Don't stand in line for Madame Toussaud's cause you will be there forever, but you will be able to take a canal cruise, see the grand place and enjoy yourself shopping or just *window shopping* lol. The Cannabis Cafe is there also if you want to take a toke while you are there. There are diamond cutting merchants you can take a tour through as well as the Rijksmuseum with the "Nightwatch". Go visit!

The train from Brussels to Amsterdam takes about 2 1/2 hours. So that's makes 5 hours for the trip. To you the choice...

You should have a few hours there. But if you are going for smoke you don't need to go that far, just cross the boarder into Holland. You will save yourself some time, and money.

I would say, take your time to enjoy a beautiful city such as Ghent, Antwerp or Leuven.
